President to open 'Year of the Christ' function on Wednesday
(New Delhi, December 19)
PRESIDENT K R Narayanan will inaugurate the 'Year of the Christ 2000'
celebrations being organised by the Delhi Government at the Indira Gandhi
Stadium on Wednesday.
The two-hour religio-cultural programme will feature lighting of ethnic
lamps by students of Queen Mary's School and an inter-faith rendition of
holy scriptures from Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Bahai, Jain, Sikh, Buddhist
and Christian faiths on the theme of peace, joy and goodwill.
Prof Sydney R Rebeiro, member executive committee and president North-West
India Christian Council, said that the programme will comprise dance, music
and choir music presented and rendered by students of different schools.
The function is to mark Anno Domini 2000, being celebrated all over the
world over as 'The Year of the Christ'. Archbishop of Delhi Reverend
Vincent M Concessao will deliver the Christmas message on the theme of
peace, joy and goodwill.
