The University of Northern Colorado's Women's Resource Center will sponsor a Take Back the Night rally and march on Thursday. Everyone is welcome.
The event begins with live music at 6 p.m. at UNC's Garden Theater, east of 10th Avenue between 18th Street and Cranford Place. Speakers and a performance by the Baha'i Dance Workshop follow at 7 p.m.
At 7:30, participants will march up 10th Avenue past the Univesity Center, weave through west campus and end at the Women's Resource Center, Scott-Willcoxon Hall, 1915 10th Ave., where there will be a reception.
"This is a march protesting violence," said Michele Tyson, one of the event organizers and a UNC graduate student who works at the center. Violence against women is just part of that, she said.
Take Back the Night began nationally in 1976, as a protest against violence toward women, particularly sexual assault. This is UNC's sixth year to sponsor the event.
