Baha'i faith to observe Festival of Ridvan
The Baha'is of Athens-Clarke County will observe the annual Festival of Ridvan over a 12-day period, beginning Tuesday, with social gatherings, devotional services and the annual election of their local governing body.
The festival celebrates the proclamation of Baha'u'llah, the prophet- founder of the Baha'i faith, to his followers that he was God's messenger for this time.
Baha'u'llah made this public proclamation during a brief stay in a garden in Baghdad, Iraq. He called the garden "Ridvan," which means "paradise" in Persian. He resided there from April 21 to May 2, 1863.
