KL show to promote understanding of religions

KUALA LUMPUR: An exhibition and screening of films on major world religions will be held from Sunday until Aug 5 at Wisma Kebudayaan Soka Gakkai Malaysia in Jalan Bukit Bintang here.

The exhibition, which is being co-organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia and the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation in collaboration with the German-based Global Ethic Foundation and the Malaysian Interfaith Network, will have as its theme “World Religions – Universal Peace – Global Ethics.”

It will introduce Islam, Buddhism, Chinese religions, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Bahai Faith and indigenous religions, as well as highlight the six ethical standards all religions have in common.

Konrad-Adenauer Foundation representative to Malaysia Peter Schier said this would be the first time the exhibition would be held in Asia.

“It is appropriate for Malaysia to host this exhibition because of its multi-cultural population of different faiths,'' he told reportersyesterday.

“It is only when we combat ignorance about different religions that we can promote understanding, mutual respect and appreciation,'' said Schier.

A series of films from the acclaimed series On the Trails of World Religions by Professor Hans Kung will also be shown nightly, followed by a panel discussion by experts.

The exhibition is free and open to the public between 11am and 8pm daily.
